The FDIC shut down 1 bank on Thursday and 3 banks on Friday bringing the 2010 total to 30 banks. The FDIC shut down 140 banks in 2009.
Louisiana, Florida and New York are the states with shuttered banks for the week. Year to date, Florida is in contention for the gold with 5 shuttered banks while Washington is vying for silver with 4 shuttered banks. Minnesota rounds out the early medal favorites with 3 banks biting the bullet.
The FDIC estimates the "hit" to their Deposit Insurance Fund (DIF) for the week is $208.2 million.
