April retail sales-the rabbit gets a bad rap yet again

5/6/10
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Retailers' April sales turned out worse than expected, reports showed Thursday, as the timing of an Easter calendar shift and cooler and wetter weather in the second half of the month took a toll, even against broader signs that a consumer recovery is on track.

The rabbit was blamed for the increase in weekly jobless claims for 2+ weeks. The Department of Labor hired Elmer Fudd to take out the rabbit and until today's retail results, grandpa thought Elmer successfully completed his contract. It appears the rabbit escaped and was able to muck up the retail sales. Let's not forget the fact that weather negatively impacted retail sales given "cooler and wetter weather". The next time your kids come home with a D+ on their report card, blame it on the weather and the rabbit.
