Weekly Jobless Claims-U.S. Department of Labor

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending May 1, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 444,000, a decrease of 7,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 451,000 (initially reported at 448,000). The 4-week moving average was 458,500, a decrease of 4,750 from the previous week's revised average of 463,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 3.6 percent for the week ending April 24, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 3.6 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending April 24 was 4,594,000, a decrease of 59,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 4,653,000 (initially reported at 4,645,000). The 4-week moving average was 4,649,000, an increase of 8,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 4,641,000.

For the week ending 4/17/10, the number receiving Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits increased 153,786 to a total of 5,354,259 people. Those collecting EUC benefits represents close to the entire populations of Nevada and Utah.
