Swift US financial overhaul is ‘unrealistic’ (Financial Times)

Financial Times
Republicans have warned Chris Dodd, the Democratic chairman of the Senate banking committee, that his aim to get a financial regulation bill to the Senate floor by the end of the month is unrealistic.

In a setback for Democrats’ hopes of signing both healthcare reform and an overhaul of financial regulation into law within weeks, the Republican members of the banking committee wrote to Mr Dodd on Friday evening. They expressed “concern that your proposed timetable will not allow members sufficient time to fully understand the details of your new legislative proposals”.

They expressed “concern that your proposed timetable will not allow members sufficient time to fully understand the details of your new legislative proposals”. SAY WHAT? Both sides have been arguing for 18 months since the AIG bailout and have yet to draft a bill. Chris, "I am out the door" Dodd drafts his version of a bill and now the review timetable is "unrealistic".

What is "unrealistic" is our expectation that financial reform is not a partisan issue. Wall Street pillaged the entire planet, received a taxpayer bailout, makes record profits (courtesy of the Federal Reserve Free Money Policy), and pays out record bonuses while 14.9 million (seasonally adjusted) Americans are without a job.

According to OpenSecrets.org there were approximately 14,000 registered lobbyists who have actively lobbied in Washington D.C. as of the end of 2009. Collectively, the Senate and the House of Representatives have 535 members. This equates to 26 registered and active lobbyists per representative. DOES ANYONE really wonder who they are really representing?

Both the House of Representatives and Senate are an absolute disgrace. You need to do the Sarah Palin thing; write the oath you took on the palm your hand.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
